Kindergarten April News
We have all noticed that the springtime weather has been rather unpredictable this year. Please be sure to send your child with clothing appropriate for the weather. We are out for recess three times each day, so they still need splash pants and warm jackets until the weather warms up.
We read a bible verse every day in Lent to help prepare for Easter. During Holy Week, we created Easter crafts and read many Easter books. When we returned to school on Tuesday, we talked about how Jesus rose up and we prepared, baked and ate Resurrection Rolls to celebrate. They are easy and fun to make-the recipe can be found at the bottom of this newsletter.
Earth Day was Monday, April 22. Yesterday (before the rain came!) we participated in a school yard clean up and continued to practice our recycling skills. As a home and school connection, please encourage/review recycling at home with your children.
Action Against Hunger Planting Boxes
Last week, Mrs. Sadlon had the opportunity to attend a Professional Development day presented by our school board and Action Against Hunger. We learned about planting school gardens and using them to help grow food to use in our school. At the end of the session, we received ten self-watering planting boxes to take back to our school. Next week, our kindergarten students will help to plan out, and then plant our garden boxes. The boxes will be kept in our kindergarten yard so that we will be able to watch them grow and take care of them (and then EAT some of what we grow!). We have asked our friends at the YMCA daycare to look after our garden over the summer. We are looking forward to this new learning experience and the tasty rewards we will harvest.
Thank you to all of those families who volunteered to sell chocolates for our school this year. The money raised will help to support many school initiatives that benefit all of our children. All money/remaining chocolates must be returned to school this week.
Kindergarten Information Evening
On Thursday, May 9, the Kindergarten Team will be hosting our annual Kindergarten Information Evening from 6:30-7:30 pm. This meeting is for parents who have or are registering new kindergarten students for September 2019. If you know of any neighbours, or family and friends (who are in our school area) with kindergarten-age children, please feel free to share this information with them. Thanks!
