As we are heading into the end of June and our final full week of online learning, we have decided to make a change to our daily schedule. We have noticed that many of our students are struggling with attendance and participation in our afternoon meetings. It has been a long, challenging period for everybody-especially the kids, and they have done a remarkable job of managing themselves while online every day. In light of this, we have decided to cancel our afternoon meetings starting this Monday, June 21 through until the last day of school (June 29). We will still have our two morning meetings (ours 9-10:30 and the prep teachers’ 11:40-12:10), but this Friday will be our last 2:00-3:00 pm meeting.
Both myself and Ms. Panico will continue to work either at home or at the school during the afternoons to start gearing up for September (we haven’t had the opportunity to get anything prepared as we usually do in June!). We would like to suggest that if you are looking for activities/work for your child in the afternoons that you please log in to our Brightspace classroom and take advantage of the many asynchronous activities available there. There are monthly homework calendars posted on our classroom website as well-they have daily activities from September 2020 all the way to August 2021. Another suggestion is for your child to use their Story Writing Journal and complete some independent drawing/writing. If none of these suggestions are appealing-I’m sure that the kids would rather be outside enjoying the nice weather anyway!
We will be taking a little road trip around to our students’ homes next Wednesday afternoon (June 23) to drop off a little goodie bag (as well as some remaining school books) to each child. We would also like to use this time to pick up the set of 20 (or as many as you can find!) linking cubes that were sent home in the children’s remote learning kits. These are part of a set of math manipulatives for our classroom and we need them back so that we have enough for next year. If you will not be available at home next Wednesday, please leave the linking cubes outside by your front door and we’ll pick them up when we drop off your child’s bag. Hopefully, we will get to say a quick hello to some of our students-we have missed them all so much this year!
As always, thank you for your ongoing support!
