Spirit Day Hockey Game
We had a fun afternoon cheering on the SCD Phoenix Hockey team at East Bayfield Arena. It was a very loud and exciting afternoon in a sea of blue and green!
Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday
Thank you to the Parent Council and Breakfast Club volunteers who came in early on Pancake Tuesday to make pancakes for the whole school. We enjoyed them thoroughly. The big question of the day was syrup on top, or syrup on the side? We also spent some time “reading” the (wordless, pictures only) story Pancakes for Breakfast by Tomie dePaola. The following day, we participated in our beautiful Ash Wednesday liturgy in the gym. We wore our ashes all day and talked about the importance of this symbol as we move towards Easter.
As we draw closer to Easter, let us reflect on the Lenten season. Lent offers us a very special opportunity to grow in our relationship with God and to deepen our commitment to a way of life, rooted in Baptism. In our busy world, Lent provides us with an opportunity to reflect upon our patterns, to pray more deeply, experiences sorrow for what we’ve done and failed to do, and to be generous to those in need.
In our classrooms, we discuss Lent as a time to try to be better people by doing acts of kindness and following Jesus’ example. We are sharing a bible passage (on the raindrop cards on our classroom window) every day through the 40 days of Lent. We remove a raindrop every day, counting the days until Holy Week and Easter.
Lots of Socks
On Thursday, March 21st (TOMORROW) our school will be supporting World Down Syndrome Awareness Day by showing off our most fun, colourful and unique socks. We are looking forward to seeing your fantastic socks-the taller, the better!
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
In celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, we have been reading his stories and practicing our rhyming skills this month. So much fun!
School Food Orders
Pizza, pasta and milk orders are due on Thursday, March 22nd. These will be the final orders for this year (April, May and June). You must log in to theSchool Day website if you wish to order food for your child. Late orders will not be accepted.
Just a reminder that with the melting snow and wet weather, it is important that our students are dressed appropriately-we still need mittens and hats most days. The children will still need either snow pants or water-resistant splash pants for outdoor play. Rubber boots are also recommended as many of the children come in after first recess with soaking wet feet. The children are encouraged to keep an extra pair of dry socks/mittens in their bags to switch out as necessary.
Coming Up in April…

We are happy that we already have three parent volunteers for this trip-unfortunately, that is all we are able to bring with us. All trip forms and information can be found on the School Day website-no paper forms will be sent home.
